High Quality Car Parts Defined
It’s easy to throw around ambiguous terms like “high quality car parts,” but what does that actually mean at the end of the day? For questions like these, we believe that the best answers are the quantifiable ones. This allows us to compare car parts accurately based on facts and statistics, not opinions. With that said, to us, “quality” means Grade A.
“Grade A” is the highest possible rating that a used car part can receive by the Automotive Recycler’s Association (ARA). It basically means that the used part is as close to new as possible in terms of appearance, wear, and performance. What are the criteria that a transmission, engine, or other major car part must meet in order to be considered Grade A? We’re glad you asked:
- Minimal damage, totaling in a surface area smaller than that of a credit card.
- An average of 15,000 miles on the car part per year, or
- Less than 60,000 miles on the car part total.
Together, these criteria help to guarantee that, despite having been used before, the car part’s performance will be nearly indistinguishable from a new one’s. However, because automotive prices can depreciate so quickly, you’re likely to spend much, much less on these like-new parts than you would on brand-new ones.
Speaking of Spending…
No matter what promises a used parts dealer makes to you, or how great their reviews are, it’s crucial to protect your investment–and the best way to do that is with a generous warranty. Only work with a used car parts dealer who protects all of their parts under a generous warranty (that means for at least one year). If a dealer isn’t willing to replace a car part for free within your first year of purchasing it if something goes wrong, it makes you wonder why that is. Even used car parts, which are far more affordable than brand-new ones, cost a good chunk of change. You should be able to rest assured that your investment was a good one, and the best way to do what is with a warranty.
While we’re on the subject of price transparency, always go with a car dealer who’s willing to give you a free quote on your used car parts without expectations or strings attached. Information is everything when you’re shopping for a new car part, and being able to compare prices is what helps you get the best deal. A dealer should be so confident that they have the best prices (or so willing to match better prices for comparable parts) that they have no trouble giving you free quotes. At Sir Car Part, we believe that’s a fundamental element of the parts buying process, and you can always count on us to give you a free quote–and the best price overall.
